According to some, the perfect masculine smile has square teeth, with the edges of the teeth following a straight line, while a feminine smile involves more rounded teeth, with the edges of the top teeth following the lower lip line, creating more curvature.

Overall, the standard for straight teeth is that they should be equally spaced and symmetrical, and they should line up with the teeth on the opposite jaw. Proper tooth positioning includes teeth that are vertical, with no protrusions or angles. A lot of emphasis is put on the front teeth from the perspective of general appearance, but it's important not to forget about the back teeth, the molars, as they must be healthy and positioned correctly in order to bear the work of chewing and grinding food, to relieve wear and tear on the front teeth.

Teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic enhancement. While it's true that whiter teeth can project an attractive, younger image, it's important to make sure that your gums and teeth are healthy before starting any whitening process. If you have sensitive teeth and gums, receding gums or perhaps some restorations in your mouth, it's especially important to have your mouth checked before agreeing to any type of teeth whitening.

Healthy gums and teeth are a prerequisite to any kind of cosmetic smile enhancement. However, sometimes improved oral health can be linked to something that is considered a cosmetic enhancement. For example, you may want to straighten your teeth for a more attractive smile, but on a more practical level, it's harder to clean cavity-causing plaque from between crowded or crooked teeth.
